The West Cumberland Hospital Redevelopment was the practice’s first commission in 2009. This £90 million P21 project was won with Laing O’Rourke and Gilling Dod. JCA developed the brief, functional content and development strategy with the Trust, maximising the budget to replace the ageing DGH with a new model for delivering care from a smaller footprint. New accommodation provides all the key clinical components to the highest current standards with the retained parts of the estate providing ambulatory and non-critical elements. Read more→
JCA’s Walton Centre design was highly commended at The Building Better Healthcare Award 2013 in the “Best Use of Existing Estate” award category.
The Walton Centre is the only independent specialist neurosciences trust in the UK, serving 3.5 million people in the North West of England and North Wales. A 25% growth in demand for inpatient services had left it desperately short of acute capacity and unable to maintain the NHS’s key referral-to-treatment-time targets.
JCA have been appointed with RLB to lead the delivery of an estates strategy for the North West London Hospitals NHS Trust and contribute to the OBC. In line with the “Shaping a Healthier Future” programme which aims to improve NHS services for the two million people who live in North West London.
The Trust will re-evaluate the functions of their three hospitals, Northwick Park, Ealing and Central Middlesex, and develop a strategy for future development. Read more→

Building work has started on the new emergency department at Northwick Park Hospital, designed by JCA. The Trust received a £21 million grant from the Department of Health last year to build the new ED, with a large children’s component and an urgent care centre. JCA are part of the Balfour Beatty P21+ team which won the commission in May 2012. Read more→
